Capacity Statement

We facilitate the co-operation of Private Training Establishments (PTEs), Tertiary Education Institutes (TEIs), Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs) and ITOs, in the provinces, to provide industry with quality and robust training mechanisms through membership of Competent Kiwi.

We are the pivotal liaison between industry and training providers ensuring centralized and transportable quality training programs and outcomes.

We assist our members to develop individual programs that are ‘clientised’, and tailored to fit the ITO and NZQA processes and operating requirements.

Our programs have been implemented through ongoing trials and development since 2004 and will continue, to ensure we are meeting industry and education stakeholders’ needs and requirements.

These programs are supported through collaborative relationships with public and private education providers.   Competent Kiwi is the catalyst that binds these providers and industry together.

Competent Kiwi members will provide practical follow up in the workplace as required by the client and/or education stakeholders.

Competent Kiwi moderates the training based on the needs and outcomes required by the client and not the expectation of the trainers. All training undertaken is assessed for confirmation that the training has been assimilated.

Competent Kiwi is an independent moderator of member training providers and their trainers, the training medium and the outcomes, assuring quality and meaningful training that is consistent across New Zealand.

Competent Kiwi has identified an area that is not a focus of any other regulatory body or organisation. Competent Kiwi goes into the classroom as a completely independent entity and moderates what goes on prior to, during and after the training session. The focus of moderation is on the trainer, the learning environment and the content of the learning material, ensuring all are conducive to trainee understanding and job requirements. The moderation will extend where necessary outside of the classroom and into the work place to validate that the trainee has assimilated the training.

In summary, Competent Kiwi sets the standard for quality training by moderating trainers randomly. We test the best practice assessment guides, the assessment design on the elements and the performance criteria of the unit standard, as well as the industry standards and the clients’ policies and procedures which help create the safe workplace. The collaboration between Competent Kiwi and the training organisations that are its members has been designed specifically so as to promote the health of employees and provide a safe and productive workplace.

Principles

Openness and Honesty – This is the way we run our business.  We will only work with people that operate in kind.

Quality, Value, Excellence and Relevance These are the characteristics of  the product that we provide and insist that our members provide.

These principles must work hand in hand i.e. regardless of the quality of a product, it must still be of value and relevant to the client before it is considered acceptable.
